Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013

Some dazzling photographs are possible with this stash of old negatives, most of them 4" by 5" affairs, with some housed in original identifying envelopes and accompanied with newspaper clippings showing how they appeared - cool! Ching Johnson stars in a dozen, all from when he settled contract differences and signed with the N.Y. Americans. He receives his Amerks sweater from Red Dutton in one and is featured in a practice photo shoot in eight others. Rangers and Americans in action (2) in 1938, Rocket Richard vs. the Rangers in 1950, Tiny Thompson with Detroit, a dozen Black Hawks-related negs (Mosienko, the Bentleys are included), and six glass negatives are among the most noteworthy. The glass negs include the 1927-28 Rangers and the Stanley Cup with New York mayor Walker at city hall, Ching Johnson and fellow Ranger d-man Jean Pusie in 1933, a posed head and shoulders shot of Ching and another showing him getting his chin taped by a trainer, Rangers-Black Hawks action from 1947 and, from 1935, action between the N.Y. Rovers and Pittsburgh Yellow Jackets. Finally, a negative from the last game at the “old” Madison Square Garden, (February, 1968) pictures Ed Giacomin making a save against the Red Wings, includes the newspaper photo from the next day and brings the grand total to 55.
