Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
Yes indeed, some 400 images(!) of the old Americans squad, the majority from the 1941-42 season when the men in red, white and blue uniforms were known as the Brooklyn Americans will provide hours of fascination. Most are matte-finish approx. 4" by 5" actions shots, pasted onto grey-ish construction paper-like pages and housed in two binders. With both newspaper captions and handwritten ones by the assembler, two scrapbook-like binders marvellously chronicle the Amerks' '41-42 (final NHL) campaign, with newspaper articles/caricatures and lineups from programs also contributing. Intriguing war-time hockey scenes feature Rayner, Watson, Boll, Mosdell, Chamberlain and a host of recognizable/famous opponents. A dozen full-page photos are also featured in the 363(!) numbered pages, with more tantalizing details on our website. A small stack of photos not part of the books include a terrific original team photo of the 1927-28 Americans team which included Lionel Conacher, Billy Burch, Joe Simpson, Marty Barry, Billy Boucher and coach Shorty Green, with all identified in a paper caption on the back of the 8” by 10” glossy. A ’41-42 Brooklyn team photo and ten dandy action photos complete the jackpot, guaranteed to delight hockey historians.
