Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013

The bold fountain pen signature of the NHL's first president, Frank Calder, on the front of this NHL Player's contract is a terrific start, with a trio of fellow Hall-of-Famers signing the back further upping the booty. The sigs of Rangers boss Lester Patrick and his son Lynn are one-above-the-other in the appropriate places, while then-coach Frank Boucher signed twice to the left as a witness. The thought of the four men all handling and signing the one-page, two-sided official document is stirring. The details reveal that Lynn Patrick earned $5,000 for the 1941-42 season, while a check of the record books shows that he did indeed collect on the $500 bonus incentive for being selected on either the first or second All-Star Team. Lynn had a career-high 32 goals in '41-42, earning First All-Star Team recognition. Measuring just under 8-1/2" by 14" and in EX condition with no tears or other notable flaws, it's a dandy piece of Rangers history.
