A Boston Arena program from the Bruins' 1928 semi-final against the New York Rangers is featured in this lot of four vintage Boston hockey programs. The Rangers advanced to the Stanley Cup final with a 4-1 victory on April 3, 1928 in what would prove to be the Bruins' final game in the Arena before moving into Boston Garden in the fall. A 1928-29 Boston Garden program for the Bruins' December 8, 1928 game against the Maroons is included along with a Bruins 1925-26 Boston Arena program for a game against Ottawa and a Boston Arena 1928-29 Boston Tigers Canadian-American League program. The April 3, 1928 Arena program for Game 2 of the Bruins-Rangers Stanley Cup playoff series measures 9 1/4" x 6 1/4" and has two pronounced creases, one vertically, the other horizontally. The lineups for the game are listed on the third page in, which has a few stains that do not affect the rosters. Shore and fellow Bruins HOFers Fredrickson, Oliver, Clapper and Cleghorn are listed in the Bruins lineup and Boucher, the Cook brothers, and Johnson are listed in the Rangers’ line-up. Handling shows in a few tears on this complete 1928 playoff program.
Boston Arena program for 1925-26 Bruins game against Ottawa has lineups for both teams. HOFer Cleghorn and captain Hitchman are listed in the Bruins’ lineup. Senators HOFers include Hooley Smith, Nighbor, Denneny, Boucher and Clancy. “Mar. 6 – 1926 Bruins 1 – Ottowa (sic) 0, Billie & Jim” handwritten in black ink on the bottom right margin of the front cover of this complete and well-preserved game program.
1928-29 Boston Garden program for the Bruins’ December 8, 1928 game against the Montreal Maroons has detached lineup centerfold with rosters from both teams. Shore, Fredrickson, Oliver and Thompson are in the Bruins’ starting lineup, with fellow HOFers Clapper, Weiland and Denneny among the spares. Maroons’ HOFers in the starting lineup include Benedict, Dutton, Siebert, Stewart and Smith. The first page inside the cover has a few pieces missing on this otherwise complete program from the Bruins’ first season at Boston Garden.
Boston Arena 1928-29 Boston Tigers program is a nicely-preserved 16-page affair with a few pencil letters on the cover.
