How good was Steve Yzerman in 1988-89? Stevie Y's 155-point season was the highest scoring campaign ever by any NHL player other than Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux! The Red Wings' 23-year-old captain also had career highs with 65 goals and 90 assists and he led the NHL with 45 even-strength goals and 388 shots. Amazing Yzerman's 1988-89 Red Wings game-worn captain's jersey with a custom-shortened hem has great game wear, featuring some 17 team repairs and pilling around the collar and on the rear inner hem. CCM logo is embroidered on the right rear tail. Maska flag tag remains in the neck. Measures out to a size 50. An action photo of Stevie Y at Boston Garden shows several characteristics noted on this game-worn jersey, including the placement of the sewn-on C on the left breast and the numbers on the left sleeve, as well as the Eastside logo heat-screened on the left rear tail. It must be noted that the included MeiGray Vintage LOA states that the jersey exhibits added wear suggesting usage subsequent to the time it was worn by Yzerman. An amazing Yzerman game-worn jersey from one of the greatest scoring seasons in NHL history! The MeiGray group MGV report states; "The jersey exhibits added wear which is not consistent with other game-worn Steve Yzerman jerseys we have examined. Specifically, this added wear consists of excessive pilling around the outside of the neck and collar, fraying of the Red Wings crest, and excessive scraping on the back numbers. This combination of wear suggests usage subsequent to the time it was game-worn by Yzerman." Team repairs include one on the left shoulder, two on the right shoulder, three on the left elbow, six on the right sleeve, three on the front tail and two on the rear tail.
Lots of wear on the white thread embroidering on the Winged Wheel crest sewn on the front with more great game wear throughout the jersey including a slash with red paint transfer on the back of the right sleeve, boards burns on the sleeves, shoulders and tails, marks all through the white twill numbers on the back and both sleeves, particularly on the right;
Though not a definite photo match, the top edge of the white twill captain’s C on the left breast is sewn slightly uneven in relation to the shoulder seam and the lower leg of the letter turns slightly inwards;
The white twill “1” sewn on the left sleeve is slightly longer and than the “9” beside it and the position of the numbers together on the photo is the same;
The red rubberized Eastman letters on the left rear hem are in the proper location.
