Frank Mahovlich and HOFers Sid Abel and Clarence Campbell signed the Big M's 1969-71 NHL standard player's contract. The two-year deal with Detroit called for a $45,000 salary for both seasons plus various bonus clauses, including one that was stricken and initialed by Campbell, who signed in blue ballpoint in his capacity as NHL president on the front. Frank scored 38 goals with Detroit in 1969-70 and totaled 31 the following season, when he was traded to Montreal, where he won his first Stanley Cup in the spring of 1971. Abel signed on behalf of the Red Wings and Mahovlich signed below on the bottom right corner of the back of the contract dated October 1, 1969 with an October 15 time stamp from the league's central registry on the front. Bonus clauses included $2,500 for the team finishing in third place or better. Campbell initialed in red ballpoint where the $3,000 bonus for winning the Stanley Cup was stricken out. The Big M cashed in on individual performanace clauses that included bonuses of $2,000 for scoring 25 goals, $150 for each additional goal from 26-35, another $2,000 bonus for scoring 36 goals and bonuses of $200 for each goal from 37 to 41. He did not reach in either season the bonuses of $2,500 for scoring 42 goals, $250 for each goal from 42 to 50, $5,000 for 50 goals, and $300 for each goal over 50.
