Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
From Tony Esposito's memorable 15-shutout 1969-70 rookie-of-the-year season and throughout the ensuing decade, memorable Black Hawks star in terrific big action photos here, most used for publication, with newspaper captions and/or dates on the majority, many of them 11" by 14" affairs. Tony O is featured the most often, with Bobby Hull, brother Dennis and Keith Magnuson, (some great "scrap" images, including wrestling with Orr), most notable in the first half of the 1970s. Playoff and Stanley Cup Finals photos from '71 and '73 (over three dozen total) are noteworthy and intriguing, as are a couple of brawls with the Bruins. Condition and sizes vary, with further details below. Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Daily News stamps are often on the back, with 11x14s joined by a host of other odd sizes including panoramic-like 7-1/2” by 14”, similar-size vertical jobs, etc, etc. Majority have light creases/bends, with some with orange or green crop lines. Long-time Black Hawk faithful will have a blast recognizing the likes of Mikita, Stapleton, White, Martin, Pappin, Koroll, Jarrett, Korab, Russell, Marks, Mulvey and others, with the collection being most appealing to Tony Esposito fans, given the dominant amount of images featuring the beloved Hall-of-Famer goaltender. Also appealing is the fact that the collection is sorted by season, with the majority from the first half of the years listed and including three dozen from ’70-71 and over five dozen from ’72-73, the years the Hawks reached the Cup finals. All in all, great stuff from good old Chicago Stadium.
