Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
Full of intrigue and entertainment is this big batch of big photos starring Black Hawks and the famous Chicago Stadium. From a tattered shot of Morenz, March and Gottselig hopping over the boards to ones of Hull scoring his record-breaking goal against the Rangers and drinking champagne, these include fantastic on-and-off-ice images that span four decades. Many were used for publication, including a 1946 LIFE affair featuring Mosienko and Bentley. A few of crowds lined-up outside the Stadium, a couple of the Coliseum, Wirtz and Norris with the Stanley Cup and Karakas, Hall and Mikita, these are a Black Hawk lover's delight. Other notable Black Hawks included are Marty Burke, Earl Seibert, Romnes, Dahlstrom, Bodnar, Pilote, Pappin and Martin. Several exterior and interior views of the Stadium are present, some of them during political conventions. The ’39-40 Hawks in dress clothes and about to board a plane, one of Murray Balfour just after scoring a triple overtime goal against Montreal in 1961 and a few of famous opponents (four of ’71 playoff hero Ken Dryden and two of Boston’s Bobby Orr) are also noteworthy, as is one of Orr wearing a Hawks jersey and autographing a hockey stick. Condition varies, with almost all larger than 8” by 10” and many measuring 11” by 14”. Seventeen reprint photos include two similar of Orr and a dozen various ones picturing an organist in front of the famous Chicago Stadium Barton pipe organ. Fun stuff all the way around!
