Black Hawks legend Charlie Gardiner died of a brain hemorrhage just two months after he led Chicago to its first Stanley Cup title in the spring of 1934. Framed Gardiner photo and poem tribute display hung in the Black Hawks' team offices at the old Chicago Stadium in memory of the great goaltender, who kept a framed copy of legendary sportswriter Grantland Rice's poem Alumnus Football on his apartment wall. The Black Hawks incorporated the poem's inspiring words on the ornate script at the bottom of the display below the original 8" x 6 1/2" portrait of Gardiner posed in his Black Hawks uniform. An amazing piece of hockey history. Set on a gray matte backdrop, the display features a cream colored matte with a pencil outline mounted in an 18 1/2" x 12 1/2" wood frame.
