Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013

The Montreal Canadiens suffered a devastating blow at the outset of the 1925-26 season. Georges Vezina, the team's outstanding goaltender, collapsed in his crease during the season opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Diagnosed with advanced tuberculosis, Vezina succumbed to the disease on March 26, 1926. Herb Rheaume, third from the left in the back row of this team photo, replaced Vezina and finished the season. This team photo measures approximately 12" x 14 1/2" and is on vintage paper stock with a couple of very slight tears and weathering at the edges, typical of its age. Handed out as a souvenir, according to the title, the piece lists each player along the bottom with the title: "NHL Hockey Canadian Team, Season 1925-26".
