This stylishly-sculpted bronze flame trophy stands 13" in height and represents the logo of the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame. The award was offered to long-time Canadiens broadcaster Rene Lecavalier and is engraved in French on the base "Rene Lecavalier, 16 septembre, 1993, Batisseur". Lecavalier was inducted as a builder into the Hall (Pantheon des Sports du Quebec). Also included is a 1987 Gala Artis award, a towering a weight piece measuring over 14" tall. As Lecavalier retired in 1985, this award was most likely given to him as a broadcaster of the Canadiens' games for over 30 years. Both trophies have been well-preserved and appear in excellent plus condition. On several occasions, Lecavalier won the Radiomonde Trophy, awarded to radio’s most popular broadcaster. Then came television and the start of a new career for René, a sports career this time. As the first commentator for the French language versison of “Hockey Night in Canada,” he quickly became so famous that he could hardly walk down the streets of Montreal without being recognized and stopped by fans who nearly treated him as a god. It was René who, without a shadow of a doubt, gave sportscasting its present status in Québec. He created, single-handedly, the French hockey language and set the first rules of excellence which are still observed by those who have followed him.
