Salt Lake City will always conjure up golden memories for Canadians. Both Canada’s men’s and women’s Olympic hockey teams struck gold in 2002 four years after the shock and disappointment of Nagano. The mens team ended a 50-year Olympic gold medal drought with its first win since 1952. The womens team won its first ever to begin a run that currently stands at three in a row. Both teams’ 2002 Olympic championships are beautifully commemorated with this spectacular Roots bomber jacket. Fantastic size XL creation of black wool displays magnificent gold thread embroidered patches, including a huge one on the back declaring both squads “2002 Gold Medal Champions” on a black chenille maple leaf outlined in gold. A smaller but still substantial version of the patch sits on the left breast. A golden Canadian flag patch has mens and womens team “gold medal champions” banners above it and below it respectively across the black leather stripe along the right sleeve. The left sleeve displays seven puck patches with the Olympic cities and years of the mens team’s gold medal wins through Salt Lake City. A great collectible, this fabulous black and gold Roots jacket remains in wonderful condition, a worthy tribute to Canada’s return to the top of the Olympic hockey podium.
