Historical Hockey Memorabilia Winter 2012

The sight of a 4-pound York Peanut Butter metal pail with a paper label picturing Frank Mahovlich and Jean Beliveau miraculously still present and intact will surely excite serious collectors of food issues. The pail has survived in dent-free shape too, with some small scrapes and scratches and expected light rust to mention. Meanwhile, a one-pound glass jar from 1961-62 tells the purchaser to “PRY UP INNER LINER FOR 3 FREE NHL HOCKEY PICTURES!” Octagonal shaped cards in the collection include EX “yellow backs” of Richard, Keon and Talbot, four at VG including Shack and Clancy and six lower grade examples. Three of four “white backs” (#s 7, 33, 41, 44) are stained, while five action jobs from ’67-68 are likely most appealing. Numbers 27 and 33 appear NM, with #s 21, 28 and a duplicate 27 closer to VG. Great lot for Yorkie enthusiasts!
