Bernie Parent became a sports hero in the City of Brotherly Love. One local bumper sticker during the 70s read: "Only the Lord saves more than Bernie Parent." An integral part of the Philadelphia Flyers' Broad Street Bullies, Parent and his teammates won the Stanley Cup twice in a row, in 1974 and 1975. In both seasons, Parent won the Vezina Trophy as best goalie and the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.
This incredible mesh uniform was worn by Parent and dates to the 1976-77 season and displays a solitary label, a small size XL fly tag, up in the neck in the same fashion as two other Parent gamers we have offered in the past. Bernie's surname crosses a short knit name bar high up on the back shoulders above his two-tone number "1". Parent has added a smaller, black marker signature to the back number, The shirt displays a handful of stick and puck marks on the lower front on the sleeves and body and has light rust colored stain splatters and dots on the front with more of the same on the lower rear hem and again in an area at the shoulders. Glue residue appears to the right of the name bar as these plates were regularly added for nationally televised games throughout the season and later removed. We note no signs of the removal of the circular Barry Ashbee patch that was worn on the shoulder the following 1977-78 season, so we are confident that this is a 1976-77 style. A great shirt, worn by a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Comes complete with a letter of authenticity from Brad Moore of Fair-More Sports.
