Historical Hockey Memorabilia Winter 2012

Seemingly insignificant black rubber disk dates back to 1972, as noted in the cream-colored oval stamping on one side. The year, one of the only readable markings on the puck as all others are in Cyrillic, is quite key. This puck is one of the few surviving game pucks from the historic 1972 Canada-Russia Summit Series that pitted the best of Soviet Russia against the heavily-favored Team Canada squad made up from the best players in the NHL at the time. This example is only the second we have seen from the final four games of the tournament. The first was sold to us years ago by noted collector, artist and Montreal goal judge Carleton "Mac" MacDiarmid who traveled to Moscow in 1972 to take in the four matches held on Russian soil.
