Historical Hockey Memorabilia Winter 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2012
Like Sidney Crosby, this white Pittsburgh Penguins road jersey that the young phenom donned down the stretch of the 2006-07 season is the real deal! Already regarded by most as hockey's premier player, Sidney's on-ice exploits thus far in his NHL career call out to be compared to those of hockey's all-time greatest players. Sid the Kid wore this alternate captain's jersey as the 2006-07 regular season wound down. The RBK-made shirt displays the CCM flag tag in the collar in size 54 with "87" marked in heavy black ink. Sid's alternate's "A" is up on the left breast and his now-famous number is there on the back and arms. Evidence of game use includes a faint stick mark across from the crest, another in the gold trim on the left sleeve and a small mark up near the RBK logo on the back. The left shoulder shows heavier wear with about a half dozen marks, a board burn and some paint transfer. A dark stuttered mark here has been conclusively photo-matched to an action shot taken during the February 22nd, 2007 match against the Florida Panthers. A digital copy of the image showing the match will accompany the lot. A Cutting Edge Sports label in the inner rear hem indicates "2006-2007 set #2" and the jersey will come with a letter of authenticity. Additional markings in blue on the fight strap reinforcing material reads "2.22.07 @ Florida" with the initials of the team equipment manager. Sidney recorded a 120-point season in 2006-07 and walked away with the Art Ross, Hart Memorial and Lester B. Pearson trophies at the end of the year!
