Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2011
Superb color images on ceramic tiles fired in England and screened in Canada by Screenart Limited are what hobbyists are referring to when they ask dealers “do you have any Cowan tiles?”, with the answer usually being “no”. “H.C. Cowan” appears on each 6” by 6” tile and it is believed that’s the name of the artist responsible for the swell designs. All-Montreal offering here is highlighted by primo near mint examples of Plante, Beliveau (2), Geoffrion, Backstrom and J.C. Tremblay, while exhibiting a light scratch/scuff and just behind are Richard, Goyette, Berenson (2) and G. Tremblay. Tiles with a minor corner chip are Fontinato, Maniago and Rousseau, with a duplicate Richard somewhat soiled but possibly cleanable. All have intact cork backings, with nine original box halves present. Very cool stuff!
