A pre-war and graded card lover`s delight is this jackpot of little sepia-tone treasures issued by Hamilton, Ontario’s Tobacco Products Corporation of Canada Limited. Unnumbered Champ’s cigarette cards are for the most part graded by SGC and are led condition-wise by a NM 7 example of Hall of Fame goaltender Clint Benedict, followed by three at EX/NM 6; Bert Corbeau, Redvers Green and Jewish hero Samuel Rothschild. Checking-in just a tad lower at EX+ 5.5 are Denneny, Finnigan RC, McKinnon RC, Randall and M. Roach. The most predominant grade is EX 5, with a total of (21), highlighted by the incomparable and coveted Howie Morenz, along with fellow Hall-of-Famers King Clancy, Sylvio Mantha and Hooley Smith RC. Also at EX 5 are Andrews, Berlinquette, Cain, Carroll, Forbes, Headley, Hitchman, Holway, Langlois, Lowrey, McCaffrey, Mitchell, G. Munro, Noble, Schnarr, Skinner and Speyers (all but four are RCs), with Odie Cleghorn and Coutu slabbed EX 5 by PSA. A star-studded seven-pack at VG/EX 4 are Billy Burch, Carson Cooper RC, Hap Day RC, Babe Dye, Dunc Munro, Frank Nighbor and Ganton Scott RC. One of the set’s keys, Georges Vezina, leads a group of (9) at VG 3 and is joined by Alex Connell’s RC, Dinsmore RC, Fowler RC, Shorty Green, Herberts RC, O’Leary RC, Prodgers and Redding RC. A VG 3 Stanley Cup card in a PSA holder is joined by two duplicate Cup cards slabbed Good 2 by SGC, with Good 2 examples of Bob Boucher RC and John Ross Roach, three at Fair 1.5; Broadbent, Jackson and Spring and a Poor 1 card of Campbell completing the stash. What a fabaulous opportunity to acquire over 90% of an exceedingly elusive 1920s set.
