Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2011
A quartet of Habs HOFer game-used sticks features Larry Robinson, Guy Lapointe, Steve Shutt and Rod Langway, all of whom contributed to the Canadiens’ late 1970s Stanley Cup dynasty. Shutt’s Sher-Wood PMP 5030 gamer has his name and number stamped on the shaft, which bears an “17 Avr 1984” date stamp on the back. Shutt’s tape job remains on the knob but the few strands he wrapped around the blade were removed. “Robinson” is stamped on the shaft of Big Bird’s gorgeous late 1970s Koho gamer, which retains his white tape job on the knob and his black tape job on the blade. Robinson’s red ballpoint autograph low on the shaft is clear to see though his dedication above it is obscured. The year of the date stamp on the back of the shaft is illegible, as is the one on Lapointe’s SherWood 5073 gamer from the early 1980s. “Lapointe” is stamped on the shaft with his no. “5” in red marker above it. Pointu’s white tape knob is intact on the shaft of this curiosity with vinyl labels running the length of both sides of the shaft. The bare blade has light cracks on the bottom edge but the stick is otherwise solid and whole. Langway, who won his first and only Cup in 1979, signed in ballpoint just below his tape job on the knob of this Victoriaville Pro Vic1000 from the outset of his HOF career with the Canadiens. “Langway” is stamped on the shaft and the no. “17” he wore with the Habs is written below it. The HOF defenseman’s tape job remains on the blade with a loose strand at the toe.
