Marty McSorley wore this circa 1984 yellow mesh gamer at the outset of his NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins. These distinctive jerseys began as an alternate that came to be known by hobbyists as the team’s "Sunday" jersey, worn occasionally in the early 1980s before it became Pittsburgh’s home uniform for 1983-84. The Penguins retired it for good at the end of the following preseason. Our research shows that the “R” on the CCM patch sewn on the tail is typical of 1983-84 jerseys, which were likely also used in the 1984 preseason. Marty wore #43 during training camp prior to his rookie season, with #10 and possibly #33 attributed to him during the regular season. He wore the #4 that is heat pressed onto this jersey in black-and-white vinyl in 1984-85. This rookie-era McSorley game-worn jersey remains in beautiful condition with a great vinyl example of the Penguins crest heat pressed onto the front. A long double-cloth fight strap remains inside the jersey, which has no tagging. Solid game wear shows in marks on the front, particularly on the left breast and tail, black marks at the left cuff, and red paint transfer and an unrepaired cut on the right cuff. A rare and very desirable style of Penguins gamer!
