Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2011
Impressive haul of 68 vintage 1920s speed skating medals awarded to Murray Roe, the son of Lot Roe, who was a world-class Canadian competitor prior to World War I. Fascinating to pore over, these vintage medals from the Roaring ‘20s are too numerous to detail here. Highlights include a gold medal for the 220-yard Senior Open race in 1926, one of three Amateur Skating Association of Canada medals from the 1925 and 1926 championships. Four golds are included among 6 Ontario medals from 1923, three from the province’s speed skating association “open” races and three “Class B” medals from that year’s provincial championships. Early 1920s youth medals, Ontario Speed Skating Association indoor championships and medals from the Old Orchard, Broadview and Ossington clubs are also included.
