Vasily Pervukhin was a fixture of Soviet hockey, participating in the 1980 and 1984 Olympics and nine World Championships. This striking gold medal is from Pervukhin's collection and commemorates the USSR’s victory at the 1987 European World Championships. The center of the medal features part of a world map in blue and red enamel amidst crossed hockey sticks. The outside lettering is “INTERNATIONAL ICE HOCKEY FEDERATION.” The reverse features two hockey players fighting for a puck, bordered by “EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS”
