This amazing Bohuslav Stastny 1972 Czechoslovakian national team jersey is very possibly the one he wore during his country’s game against Team Canada’s NHL all-stars in Prague! Played on September 30th, two days after the final game of the legendary Canada-Russia Series in Moscow, the international exhibition game pitting Czechoslovakia against the NHL’s best ended in a 3-3 tie. Stastny scored a pair of second-period goals for the Czechs, who trailed 2-0 after the first. A YouTube video of Stastny’s second goal, a power-play tally that tied it at 2, shows the Czech star wearing what we believe to be this exact jersey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SEsV6bPbP8&feature=related). Team Canada HOFer Serge Savard scored with four seconds left in the third after the Czechs took their only lead of the game with another power-play goal early in the final period. This blue Czechoslovakia #12 tie-neck beauty was probably worn by Stastny throughout 1972, an unforgettable year that saw the Soviets’ bitter international rivals win world championship gold on home ice while claiming Olympic bronze in Sapporo. Marvelous thin knit uniform the national crest on the front and surname letters and numbers on the back and both sleeves in white-and-red woven fabric in drop-shadow style sewn-on on a white felt outline. Game wear shows in black marks across the sewn-on stripes on the front tail, and light marks and board burns with paint transfer on the sleeves. The absence of tagging is typical for Czech national team uniforms of the period. A great game-worn example from an international hockey powerhouse at the top of its game!
