Russian hockey great Alexander Yakushev wore this amazing blue wool jersey when he was loaned by his Spartak club team to bolster the Soviet Wings, who joined the Central Red Army squad for the 1975-76 Super Series games against NHL teams. With the Summit Series star in their lineup, the Wings beat Pittsburgh, Chicago and the New York Islanders, the only blemish in their four-game tour a 12-6 pasting at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres. The “KC” logo in white felt sewn on the front of this tie-neck beauty are the Cyrillic initials for “Krilya Sovetov”, which translates to the Wings of the Soviet. “Yakushev” is spelled out in white twill letters sewn onto the blue nylon nameplate that was added to the back, above his #11 in red twill and white felt, for the benefit of North American TV audiences. We count nine team repairs on the sleeves and rear tail, while some stains and unrepaired holes do not diminish this historic Soviet wool’s display. This remarkable game-worn jersey was originally gifted by Yakushev to a Czechoslovakian journalist, who subsequently gave it to Jiri Holecek, his country’s star international goalie of the 1970s. Offered from Jiri Holecek’s personal collection, this historic Russian 1976 Super Series game-worn jersey will come with his signed LOA.
