Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2011

Every hockey-mad Czechoslovakian kid of the Cold War era wanted to wear their national team's sweater when they grew up, and this one with Jiri Holecek's number "2" is filled with history. According to our consignor, Mr. Holecek, this is the Czechoslovakia gamer he wore during the emotionally-charged 1969 world championships in Stockholm, which were originally scheduled to be held in Prague. This blue cotton sweater is a national treasure, worn by Holecek for his country's most inspired pair of international triumphs of the communist era. Holecek and his Czechoslovakian teammates beat the U.S.S.R. twice in the tournament, striking a blow for their compatriots back home. Despite having to settle for bronze, all Czechoslovakians delighted in exacting a measure of revenge from the Soviets in the immediate wake of the brutal put-down of the 1968 Prague uprising. Preserved in amazing condition, it features Czechoslovakia's lion crest sewn on the front and a tie-neck front collar with six eyelets that exhibit no discernible stretching. Holecek's number "2" in white-and-red woven fabric letters in drop-shadow style on a white felt outline is sewn on the back and on both sleeves. The historical jersey shows light game wear and was preserved in fantastic condition. This superb international hockey treasure comes with Jiri Holecek's signed letter of authenticity.
