Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2011

This terrific twig was handled by goaltending legend, the late Terry Sawchuk. This example is a Northland Pro game-used stick, the style used by Sawchuk in the 1960s during his second stint with the Detroit Red Wings as well as in his first season with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1964-65. Northland’s St. Paul, Minn. and Olympic Sporting Goods stamps sit high on the shaft, which retains Sawchuk’s white tape job surrounding his black tape knob. “Sawchuck” (sic) is stamped on the front of the shaft, which was broken and repaired at the top of the paddle. The original black bulldog tape was removed from the paddle for that fix, which made this gamer whole once again. Sawchuk’s black tape job on the blade remains intact. A Sawchuk gamer in any condition is a tough find and this one, while less-than-perfect, was nicely restored and made ready for a suitable display.
