Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2011

Sensational offering here dates back to the 1953-54 campaign and was wielded by the one and only Maurice Rocket Richard during a season that saw the Canadiens’ star finish second only to scoring champion Gordie Howe. Richard added 37 goals to his career total and was tops in the league in the lamp-lighting department. The Rocket’s CCM stick had “Partie du 16 janvier – Boston 1 Canadien 2” (January 16th game) added in pen back in the day to one side of the shaft, while a bold black Sharpie Richard autograph on the lower shaft was penned in his later years. With “Richard 9” stamped on the shaft and darkened white tape covering black to form a correct-for-the-period knob tape job, the stick remains solid and had its most recent owner sign and date it on the back of the shaft, near the knob. The lumber shows good game use with stick and puck marks on the lower shaft, with part of the blade (top edge) chipped off. A couple of time cracks and a crack at the upper tip of the blade are also to note. The thought of the founder of the NHL’s 500-goal club using this in NHL action sure is inspiring when holding and admiring the treasure. A letter of authenticity from Classic will be included with this stupendous stick.
