Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2011
This classic colorized image of the two-time Stanley Cup champion Montreal Canadiens lined up outside the fabled Forum after their Cup run in the spring of 1931 is a highly-sought original. Howie Morenz and Aurele Joliat stand on either side of goalie George Hainsworth in the middle along with the likes of Gagnon, Burke, Lepine, Leduc, Mondou, Larochelle, Rivers, Wasnie, Lesieur, the Mantha brothers, coach Cecil Hart and Leo Dandurand. “We recommend Frontenac Export Ale” appears in both English and French. This 80-year-old relic retains marvelous red-white-and-blue colors on the Habs uniforms. This vintage promotional piece otherwise shows its age with extensive vertical creases, tape marks, including a substantial one in the bottom left, light brown stains throughout and a few spots of paper loss. The 17” x 34” wood frame has a piece missing from the left edge and is not a vintage Frontenac frame. Despite its less-than-perfect condition this vintage 1931 Canadiens Frontenac framed ad still displays very nicely and will make a welcome addition to your Habs shrine.
