When sports writers gathered to select the 1966 recipient of the Lou Marsh Memorial Trophy it was no contest. The unanimous choice was Elaine Tanner, who was only 15 years old and is the youngest recipient of the award given to Canada’s top athlete for the past 75 years. Tanner was given the honour in large part for her record-setting, seven medal performance at the 1966 Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica. The honour elevated her to the top of the Canada sports world and she still stands tall as the most successful Canadian female swimmer ever. Some additional items are included. In addition to the Lou Marsh Trophy, the following items are included: a signed letter from Alan Eagleson extending an invitation to the Mike Walton and Bobby Orr hockey camp, a framed letter from the Toronto Star commending her conduct at the Lou Marsh Trophy ceremonies, a framed photo of Tanner with Bobby Orr that is signed by Tanner, an unframed photo of Tanner receiving the trophy, an unframed photo of Tanner with Bobby Orr.
