Nicknamed ``Mighty Mouse`` for the powerful performances pushed out of her diminutive 5`0`` frame, Elaine Tanner still reigns as one of Canada`s best ever athletes. 45 years have passed since Elaine Tanner won this record-setting haul of seven medals at the 1966 Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica – a record that still stands. Tanner was the first person to win four gold medals in a single Commonwealth Games and she still stands tall as the most successful Canadian female swimmer ever. The Jamaica games marked many milestones for Canada and Elaine Tanner. She set two world records: the 110 yard butterfly in 1:06.8 minutes and the 220 yard butterfly in 2:29.9 minutes. When Tanner won gold as part of the 4x110 yard freestyle relay team, it was Canada`s first gold and marked the first time the new Canadian flag was raised at a Commonwealth Games. Tanner was a trail blazer for Canadian athletes and earned many honours during her career, including being named Canada`s top athlete in 1966 when she was only 15 - the youngest person ever to do so — and she was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1969. She was inducted into Canada`s Sports Hall of Fame in 1971. These seven medals include: four gold – 110 yard butterfly, 220 yard butterfly, 440 yard individual medley, 4x110 yard medley relay; three silver – 110 yard backstroke, 220 yard backstroke, 4x110 yard medley relay. The medals are set in a royal blue, velvet lined and gold framed case. All are in very good condition and have a series of identifying numbers and letters in the lower right section. The medals depict a male ready to sprint from the starting blocks. Each medal is attached to a royal blue ribbon by a series of three pin-styled links on either side respectively bearing the emblems of Jamaica, the Games, and Kingston. All ribbons are in excellent condition with no signs of wear. Dive in to take advantage of this rare opportunity. Includes LOA from Elaine Tanner.
