Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
A sensational wire photo showing legendary innovator Jacques Plante donning his "semi-finished fibreglass mask he'll wear in NHL games" is stamp-dated Oct 4, 1959 on the back and is the highlight here, with Plante also holding up his original practice mask. Historians will recall it was November 1st when Plante began wearing the mask after taking an Andy Bathgate shot in the face. An action shot of Plante and his history-making mask is dated Dec 28, 1959, with five others showing him in pre-mask action. Two views of his "pretzel" mask are from 1962 and a nice complement is Plante, Boomer, Moore and Blake celebrating the first of five straight Stanley Cup titles. A terrific Plante ensemble!
