Here’s a really special jersey worn by Phoenix Coyotes alternate captain Shane Doan for the first game of the 2002-03 season. Coyotes GM Michael Barnett has signed a letter of authenticity on team letterhead explaining the significance of the “99” patch sewn onto the right breast of this single-use jersey that was worn by both the Coyotes and the Los Angeles Kings, who retired Wayne Gretzky’s number prior to their home opener against Phoenix on October 9, 2002. The alternate captain’s “A” cream and burgundy tackle will is sewn onto the left breast and the fight strap and laundry tag remain intact. A “Made in Canada” size 56 fly tag is sewn over at the top by black thread from nameplate stitching. This one time jersey exhibits very light wear, with a small stick slash mark under the left shoulder. Documentation from the NHL/Meigray Group registry is included.
