A terrific story accompanies these terrific jerseys, worn during the first ever and memorable Canada Cup tournament in 1976. Those who witnessed the event's final game will remember how Team Canada players exchanged jerseys with their Czechoslovakian opponents, much to the delight of the crowd, after Darryl Sittler's overtime goal had provided Canada with the winning margin. This white knit Team Canada jersey that Lanny McDonald wore during the tournament was thus obtained by the Czech's number 12, Bohuslav Stastny. Everything is screened on the jersey, including "McDonald" across the back (no nameplate). Tagged in the neck in size 46 by "AK", the jersey shows some nice game use, with a few hacks/scrapes in the red half maple leaf logo, laundered red board paint at the elbows and a good stick mark near the "12" on the left sleeve. The interior includes a blue sharpie McDonald autograph that follows "I wore this in the Canada Cup!", with the ink showing through the "2" on the back. A predominantly white Czech jersey, which Stastny donned prior to the final game (the Czechs wore red jerseys in the finale), is also included here. Classic cotton jersey of the era has everything sewn-on, including the team crest and the tri-color numbers and letters. All original with staining/soiling to note, and originally obtained, along with the McDonald jersey, from Bohuslav Stastny. Remarkable international hockey memorabilia!
