Seldom-seen official document for contract and signature collectors to consider is from a historic season in which Jacques Plante became a regular fixture in Montreal in 1953-54, playing in 17 games with the Canadiens. Plante, assigned to the Buffalo AHL farm team, did play in three matches with the Habs the previous year but as NHL guidelines detail, he did not play enough to be considered for rookie status in the National Hockey League in 1952-53. Thus, this document is considered to be the contract for his services during his rookie season. The Standard Player's Contract pays Plante $6,000 for his service during the season with the Buffalo Bisons of the American Hockey League, with additional payments of $125 per game if he plays for the Canadiens. Plantes 1953-54 stats show he had a winning record of 7-5-5 with the Canadiens that year. NHL president Clarence Campbell has endorsed the front of the contract and his ballpoint signature rests atop the registry stamp. The lower reverse side holds the ballpoint autographs of Jacques Plante and Canadiens President William Northey, witnessed twice by secretary Lee Dillon on the 28th day of September, 1953. An impressive find, signed by two deceased Hall of Fame members.
