Hulking and gifted Russian defenceman Vladimir Malakhov arrived in Montreal along with Pierre Turgeon in the 1995 trade that sent Kirk Muller, Mathieu Schneider and Craig Darby to the Islanders. Malakhov donned the No. 38 for the Canadiens, and though he would occasionally flash his overwhelming natural talent for all to see during his six-year stint with the Habs, overall his tenure with the team was a huge disappointment. The NHL 2000 patch sewn onto the right breast of this Habs Pro Player home jersey identifies it as a 1999-2000 vintage from Malakhov’s last season in Montreal. The Starter tag and size 56 fly tag remain in the neck, as do the fight strap and laundry instruction tag inside the left seam. The red and blue Pro Player logo and silver and black NHL shield are embroidered onto the right tail. The jersey was issued by the team, though it was never used by Malakhov as is clear from the complete lack of wear. It comes along with a letter of authenticity from the Montreal Canadiens, signed by Rejean Houle.
