Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Three World Hockey Association card sets here are led chronologically and in terms of importance/value by a 1975-76 entry. The first and last half dozen show signs of an elastic band having once been around the stack, with #1-Bobby Hull (VG) and the checklist (similar with one box blackened-in) among the affected cards. Approximately one-quarter of the set features light back damage along the upper and/or lower back edge, the result of tape or glue, although most of the key cards are not affected, including 7-Mark Howe RC (EX), 34-Plante, 66-Gordie Howe and 100-Howe All-Star, with damage to 65-Hull All-Star. The rest mostly range from EX to NM, with an EX+ average. .....The '76-77 representatives also total 132, with the same rubber band issue but with most cards displaying EX-MT and NM characteristics, although images are considerably left of center, oftentimes typical with this issue. .....From '77-78 is a set of 66, with again, an elastic once around them and affecting #1-Howe 1000 Points (VG-EX). Others average EX-MT with several NM-or-better examples spotted, to go along with 20 duplicates, including 1-Howe (EX), 50-Hull (2), 31-Henderson (5) and 65-Marty Howe (5). Oh, both checklists in the two last sets are unmarked with the one from '76-77 badly off-centered. ......Thrown onto the pile and also interesting is a near set of Dad's Cookies from '70-71. There is a small percentage of exceptions, with the vast majority NM-or-better and featuring a wonderful lineup, led by Hall of Famers Orr, Howe, Hull, Beliveau, Plante, Parent, the Esposito brothers, Clarke, Park and Perreault. The one missing card is that of Pit Martin, with a duplicate of Ratelle present.
