Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
Especially proficient at both hockey and lacrosse, Joseph Cattarinich was the first goaltender of the Montreal Canadiens, and later purchased the club in 1921 in a partnership with Leo Dandurand and Louis Létourneau. The 1977 HOF inductee was also a joint owner of a number of racetracks including Montreal’s famous Blue Bonnets Raceway. Originally displayed at the hallowed Montreal Forum and most likely later at the Bell Centre, we have a framed painting of Joseph Cattarinich by noted Habs artist Michel Lapensee. At approx 11” x 15” and executed in water colours, Laviolette is expertly portrayed, with his name and tenure listed on the matte. The artist has signed, adding the date (1992), with the work double-matted and framed to approx 19” x 23”. The unique painting is flawless, with light wear to the frame. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
