The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Starting with the ‘81-82 season and running through to ‘92-93, the Prince of Wales Trophy was awarded to the playoff champion in the Wales Conference. After winning the Stanley Cup in 1986, the Canadiens once again made it to the Cup finals in ‘88-89 beating Philadelphia 4 games to 2 to claim the Wales trophy. Led behind the bench by coach-of-the year Pat Burns and on the ice by Roy (Vezina trophy), Chelios (Norris), Carbonneau (Selke), Naslund and Bobby Smith, the Canadiens also finished atop the Wales Conference in the regular season with 115 points. Jean Beliveau, the team's Senior Vice-President of Corporate Affairs, was presented with this gorgeous personal miniature of the Wales trophy. Four hockey sticks rise up from the 2-inch high wooden base and support a silver-plated cup with lid. An engraved metal plate on one side of base reads "NHL Champions - 1988-89 - Montreal Canadiens" while the opposite side's inscription includes the name of the trophy and "Jean Beliveau". This trophy is in brilliant near mint condition and is from Mr. Beliveau's personal collection. His signed letter of authenticity will accompany this stunning treasure.
