The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
During Jean Beliveau's playing days, there were many players, coaches and fans who felt they owed Beliveau following Montreal Canadiens' championships and Stanley Cup victories. As the Canadiens' Vice-President of Corporate Affairs following his 18 years in a Habs uniform, Jean Beliveau owes this trophy to the 1985-86 squad, particularly Patrick Roy who turned in an incredible playoff performance as Montreal went "all the way". Members of the Canadiens received miniature Prince of Wales trophies for beating the Rangers in 5 games in the Wales Conference finals. Roy's miraculous performance in game 3 when he stopped over 50 shots, including 13 in overtime as Montreal won 4-3, is something Montreal fans will never forget. This personal miniature presented to Jean Beliveau features 4 hockey sticks which rise up from the 2-inch high wooden base to cradle a cup with lid. A metal plaque on the base reads "HRH Prince of Wales Trophy - Jean Beliveau" while one on the opposite side includes the year, "NHL Champions" and "Montreal Canadiens". The Habs were indeed champs after taking Calgary in 5 games in the Cup finals. From Jean Beliveau's personal collection and in sensational near mint condition, the silver-plated award will be accompanied by his classic signature on a letter of authenticity.
