The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
It's hard to imagine another Canadiens or other NHL team for that matter, ever being assembled that will rival the Montreal teams which captured 4 consecutive Stanley Cup championships in the 1970's. The Habs made it 3 straight in ‘77-78 as they beat Boston in the finals, with Larry Robinson winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP of the playoffs. Guy Lafleur continued his dominant ways, reaching the 60-goal mark and winning the Art Ross (scoring champ), the Hart (league MVP) and Lester Pearson (players' choice as outstanding player) trophies. Ken Dryden shared the Vezina with Bunny Larocque, Serge Savard took the Bill Masterton and Bob Gainey was awarded the first Frank Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward. Players and executives received shocking gold and diamond rings to commemorate the awesome season. Vice-President Jean Beliveau's ring is highlighted by a white gold face that includes 24 diamonds surrounding a larger one in the middle. "NHL" is above and "Champions" below while "19" and "78" are at the sides. One shank has a miniature replica of hockey's ultimate prize and lists the 21 years that Montreal took home the silverware. The other includes "Beliveau", the Habs logo and their 59-10-11 record. The size 11 ring is stamped "Josten's 14K" on the inside band and has an engraved reproduction of Beliveau's famous signature. In stunning near mint condition and another of the highlights of his ring collection, it will be accompanied by Mr. Beliveau's signed LOA.
