The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
It's hard to imagine another Canadiens or other NHL team for that matter, ever being assembled that will rival the Montreal teams which copped 4 consecutive Stanley Cup championships in the 1970's. The Habs made it 3 straight in ‘77-78 as they again took Boston in the finals, with Larry Robinson winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP of the playoffs. Members of the team received personal awards like this one for having led the Wales Conference with 129 points by virtue of a 59-10-11 record. Guy Lafleur continued his dominant ways, reaching the 60-goal mark and winning the Art Ross (scoring champ), the Hart (league MVP) and Lester Pearson (players' choice as outstanding player) trophies. Ken Dryden shared the Vezina with Bunny Larocque, Serge Savard took the Bill Masterton and Bob Gainey was awarded the first Frank Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward. This silver-plated trophy presented to Canadiens Vice-President Jean Beliveau features four hockey sticks which rise up from a 2-inch high wooden base and support a cup with lid. The name of the trophy and "Jean Beliveau" appear on a metal plate on one side of the base while engraving on the opposite includes the year and the words that Canadiens fans never got tired of : "NHL Champions - Montreal Canadiens". In beautiful excellent-plus condition, the memento from a great time in franchise history will come with Jean Beliveau's signed LOA.
