The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Yes, miniature Stanley Cups are desirable, but this one? This one falls into the extremely and ultra-desirable category. Not only is it that of Jean Beliveau but it is from the very first year that miniature Cups were ever presented to players AND the only year of the Canadiens record 5 Cups in a row that Habs players received them. Montreal had a tremendous ‘57-58 season, topping the NHL with 96 points while Dickie Moore and Henri Richard finished 1-2 in scoring. In the playoffs, the Canadiens tied the Leafs record of three consecutive Stanley Cup titles, first sweeping the Red Wings before being pushed to 6 games by a brave Bruins squad. Rocket Richard led post-season scorers with 11 goals including an important overtime winner in game 5 and Beliveau had a goal and an assist in the game 6 clincher, with Bernie Geoffrion scoring the winner in a 5-3 outcome in Boston. This amazing memento from the championship season features the engraved names on the barrel of the men who made it happen. Team President Senator Molson, GM Frank Selke, VP Kenny Reardon, coach Toe Blake and captain Maurice Richard are grouped above the wonderful cast of players headed by Beliveau. The silver-plated holy grail was produced by "Peterson" and exhibits spots of tarnish throughout and a slight indentation just to the right of the engraved names. Original green felt is beneath the black wooden base. For very serious collectors of very special awards, this is the one! Jean Beliveau, the premier center of the day, will sign a letter of authenticity that will be included with this stirring keepsake.
