The Jean Beliveau Auction- February 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2005
Brilliant miniature trophy commemorates Jean Beliveau's one and only NHL scoring championship. The Canadiens' 2-year wait to secure the phenom's services was definitely worth it! By his third season with the Habs, the lanky centerman had become the dominent player at his position and one of the league's superstars. The ‘55-56 season saw Beliveau break Joe Malone's single-season goal record (44) for a center, with his 47 goals and 88 points representing league highs. The opposition "testing" what they thought was a gentle giant is evidenced by Beliveau's career high 143 penalty minutes. This personal Art Ross trophy was produced in recent years by the "Boffey" company and features a replica of the cup that sits atop the original award. A simple engraved metal plaque on the 8" x 8" wooden base includes "Jean Beliveau - Montreal Canadiens - 1955-56". Beliveau continued his exceptional season in the playoffs, tied Maurice Richard's playoff record with 12 goals and the Habs were on their way to record 5 consecutive Stanley Cup titles. This trophy is in gorgeous near mint condition and will be accompanied by a LOA signed by the incomparable Jean Beliveau.
