Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2013

Breathtaking find is Howie Morenz's 1933-34 Montreal Canadiens multi-signed game-used stick from the Habs icon's last season before his shocking trade to Chicago. This precious stick was obtained from an older gentleman who had kept it as a prized possession since he was 10 years old. The boy's father, TPD Rodden, was a friend of Morenz who obtained this gift from the Stratford Streak for his son. Howie signed low on the shaft, a beautiful bold black ink example that is the strongest signature on display here. Aurele Joliat, Jack Portland and Jack Riley autographs are clear to see while other signatures are too faded to discern, some likely lost to water damage on the upper shaft which still displays a small handwritten "1934" below the knob. The original tape jobs on the knob and blade, which has a wrapped row missing at the toe, are consistent with the ones we have observed in photos of Morenz. There are some chips along the edges of the shaft, including a long and substantial one on the bottom edge right about at the balance point of the stick, and various cracks in the blade of this amazing game-used stick that displays great black marks from game use by one of the game's greatest legends! Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA.
