This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2009
Archie Hooper was the captain of the Little Men of Iron, the 1902 Montreal Amateur Athletic Association team that reclaimed the Stanley Cup for the city in a hard-fought three-game series in Winnipeg. A member of an athletic Montreal-area family, Hooper died two years later at the age of 24 as the result of an accidental blow he took during a hockey game. This lot of vintage hockey documentation from the early 20th Century comes from the Hooper familys collection. Vintage ticket stubs include a 1915 Montreal Arena Company for the March 9 Junior Amateur Hockey Association playoff game between the Victorias and the MAAA. Archie Hoopers younger brother, Allan, scored the decisive third goal for the Victorias in their 3-2 win that night. Vintage newspaper clippings included in this lot show that Allan Hooper went on to score a hat trick in the decisive 6-2 win over Shamrocks that gave Victorias their 12th championship as winners of the Junior Cup. Allan Hoopers Victoria Juniors pass from the Montreal Arena Company for the 1914-15 season has William Northeys facsimile signature stamped on it. Two original Junior Amateur Hockey Association of Canada schedule cards for the 1914 and 1915 seasons are included, with vintage handwritten game results neatly inscribed. Allan Hoopers Canadian Amateur Hockey Association eligibility cards for 1921 and 1922 are included, along with two green ticket stubs from an early New York Rangers playoff game at Madison Square Garden with a $3 face value. A 1926 magazine picture shows a panoramic view of the inside of a packed Montreal Forum with the Canadiens lined up to face an unidentifiable opponent in a Rice Studios photo. Another magazine picture shows a studio team photo of the Haileybury Comets. A number of original snapshots depict various Hooper family snapshots depicting the boys and teammates playing hockey, as well as some football shots. Frank McGee and Alf Smith are pictured in a magazine photo montage of the 1906 Ottawa club. A collection of 11 of Allan Hoopers original skating and hockey club cards from St. Lambert ranging from his boys ticket from 1904-05 up to his membership ticket for 1920-21, which has been crossed out and rewritten, 1921-22 complete this magnificent lot of early 20th Century hockey memorabilia.
