Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Fabulous big trophy is from Buddy O'Connor's marvelous pre-NHL career in which he wowed fans while starring with the Montreal Royals, a senior team he helped to the Allan Cup finals on a regular basis. Teamed with Pete Morin and Gerry Hefferman, O'Connor centered the "Razzle Dazzle Line", and dazzle the spectators they did during the late-1930s and early-1940s before being signed by the Montreal Canadiens. The huge cup that sits upon the 6-inch high wooden base here is engraved "The Sport Fan Popularity Trophy - 1940-41 - Won by Buddy O'Connor - Royals - QSHL - 60,000 Votes." Originally from O'Connor’s collection, the silver-plated cup exhibits tarnishing and surface loss, with considerable wear to the wooden base as well. Two small wooden pegs that were intended as handles are also included. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
We should also mention for complete accuracy that while the trophy is firmly attached to the wooden base, it is able to swivel.
