Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

Bringing Big Apple hockey to the world's 16th largest island and 10th largest Canadian province, the New York Rangers visited Grand Falls, Newfoundland in 1951 for an exhibition match that thrilled locals, with this collection of three signed postcards – especially scarce images given the venue – hailing from the event. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a trio of signed real photo postcards including two multi-signed, highlighted by an example individually signed by deceased HOF netminder Charlie Rayner. At the standard 3 ½” x 5 ½”, one postcard pictures five Blueshirts, signed by three with HOFer Neil Colville, Frank Eddolls and Nick Mickoski, the second depicts a team photo with Colville, Rayner, and fellow HOFer Allan Stanley, as well as Frank Eddolls, Nick Mickoski, Tony Leswick, Reggie Sinclair and three others signing, and the final specimen pictures the 1950 Hart Memorial winner, signed by Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Each signature exhibits degrees of bleeding from the glossy, less-porous surfaces, with the indentation visible on the trio-signed example of a notation stating “Rangers @ Grand Falls April 9, 1951”. The postcards themselves exhibit just light handling wear and toning, with residue on the reverse of each from scrapbook removal.
