Sensational Boston Bruins road jersey was worn by scoring machine Phil Esposito during the 1973-74 season. By that time, Phil had established himself as the game's premier center, having smashed previous single season scoring records and setting the bar very high indeed with his 76 goals and 152 points in 1970-71. Espo's size and strength enabled him to "hang" in the slot and parlay the work of linemates Cashman and Hodge into 50 and 60 goal seasons. Phil was en route to a 68-goal season when he gave this jersey away. We obtained it from a man in Montreal whose father had connections with people in the Bruins organization and who was thus able to bring his son into the Boston dressing room following a Bruins/Canadiens game at the Montreal Forum. It was during this dressing room encounter that Esposito presented the boy with his jersey. The gorgeous Wilson dureen jersey is tagged in the neck by the company with a size "56" added in black ink and the year "73" added in black marker. The Bruins gold and black tackle twill crest is sewn on the front along with Phil's assistant captain's "A" on the left breast. Esposito's number "7" is sewn on the sleeves and on the back. Small round embroidered patches commemorating Boston's 50th year in the NHL are sewn on the shoulders. A double garter style fight strap is sewn into the tail. Jersey has been preserved in superb condition. There are four team repairs to mention; a small circular one appears on the front hem, another on the back hem, yet another similar one is on the right elbow, and an inch long repair is on the front of the sleeve. A couple of small burns can be spotted on the left sleeve. Pilling enthusiasts will be glad to read about the great interior pilling! Old Bruins jerseys are very difficult to find, not to mention those of career 700-goal men! Here is one that has surfaced after 30 years, and in Montreal, of all places. Being offered to the hobby for the first time, it presents serious jersey collectors with a tremendous opportunity. Comes with a letter of authenticity.
