Well folks, if they founded a hall of fame just for goalie masks, this one would surely be amongst the group of original inductees! One of the most famous and recognizable of them all, this Ernie Higgins-made mask was worn by Gerry Cheevers during his days with the Boston Bruins and WHA Cleveland Crusaders. Stitches, representing where Cheevers would have likely been cut had he not had the mask on, were added in black marker each time Gerry took one in the face or on the noggin. Bruins fans or not, everyone thought the mask and the idea was cool! The straps are still there along with thin interior foam padding and Cheevers autographed the inside in black marker. The mask shows the wear of many a battle and will come with a handwritten letter from Cheevers, stating that other than his first two seasons in the NHL, it is the only mask he ever used in the NHL or WHA! Arguabley the most photographed single piece of hockey history that defines an era and which inspired other netminders to create their own special "trademark" face protectors. One of the most significant and tempting pieces of Brian Rogers' astonishing goalie mask collection, this museum-worthy relic can now be the cornerstone of your collection.
