Author Charles Coleman likely didn't know it at the time, but his detailed work on the history of competition for Lord Stanley's trophy contained in these three volumes has become an absolute prerequisite in serious hockey historian's libraries and very highly sought after. Only 1000 copies of Volume 1 (covering 1893-1926) were presented in 1968 to important hockey figures.
